The News Can Do Some Good

In the past couple of weeks, teens drinking alcohol has become a major fashion. In a particular Junior High alone, over 10 students were caught and suspended for being under the influence of alcohol.
The dangers of teen drinking are very high in risk. You can not only hurt yourself, but you can hurt others. A local website says that more than 7 percent of eighth graders, 16 percent of sophomores, and 23 percent of seniors report recent binge drinking (5+ drinks on the same occasion). That means almost a quarter of the graduating 8th grade class has tried alcohol under the legal age.
In some cases, mistakes are made. But in others, they are choices that you make in the sense of tour own mind. Drinking can be dangerous at any age, but under the legal age, more so. Being intoxicated isn't a good choice, and it is up to resources like the news and television to help put the thought of stopping in the kids minds.

  1. This is a very reasonable post. Although, I would say I don't think we can count on the media to change culture, since what sells the most advertisements isn't always what's best for kids. I think parents, teachers, and intelligent, well-grounded students like yourself have the greatest responsibility to be a positive influence.

Nice work tackling a tough topic.
