Freaky or just normal people
Some might think that some authors are some of the most crazy and strange people on the world for what they write. Well how do we know how people really are? They are most likely just really creative and imaginative people. Take Edgar Allan Poe for instance, he wrote some really disturbing stories, but it doesn't prove that he is a creep or something like that. Take another author Sarah Vowell, she writes books about dead presidents and the history of Hawaii. She does it in a humorous way though. That doesn't make her into a bloodthirsty smart person. Judge people for who they really are, not on what they write.

I have to agree with you, people do jump to conclusions when reading an author's story. When they read an insane story they automatically they think the author is insane. We should not judge the author just after reading one of his stories. I also agree with you on how Edgar Allen Poe did write disturbed stories. I, however do not know anything about the author Sarah Vowell. It would be helpful if next time you would consider adding a hyperlink to one of her stories.
