You shouldn't always copy the most interesting man in the world. Should the drinking age be lowered or stay the same? There are many people on both sides of this debate. Some think it should stay at 21 because there has been fewer problems than there have at 18. Others think that if you get a permit, you could do it. The age to drink should stay at 21 and not go down.
I believe it should stay at 21 because it saves lives and causes less harm. When people drink at a younger age, there are a lot more problems on the road. People may not always die from drunk driving but they can have serious injuries and be hospitalized, An estimated 800 lives a year are saved when the drinking age was raised to 21. That is 800 people whose lives aren't cut short by an incident related to drinking.
Another reason the drinking age should stay at 21 is because it increases the chances of problems. If a kid starts drinking before 14, they have a higher chance of becoming addicted. Their chances of getting into a crash related to alcohol also goes up. Not only that but their chances of getting into a fight also increases. It's better to have teens not drink in order to avoid all these terrible things. It would also avoid young people drinking at least for a while.
Some say that the voting age and the military age should be raised to the age of being able to drink. They say that the drinking age is at 21 because the brain finishes maturing at 25. They say it has to be consistent. So if the age to vote and go into the military is lowered, we basically want drunk teens allowed to choose our future leaders and protect us. I wouldn't want a drunken guy with a gun or helping decide my future. I want someone with a clear and focused mind handling all that stuff.
I say no to lowering the age. The most interesting man in the world says to stay thirsty. He should lighten up a bit on the Dos Equis and drink more milk and water.
Hilarious picture.
